Pediatric Osteopathic Manual Therapy

Specialists: Jim Harwood, PT

Pediatric Osteopathic Manual Therapy combines a traditional understanding of the normal development of infants, babies and children with the powerful healing capabilities of Osteopathic Manual Therapy to offer parents a highly effective rehabilitative tool as well as a wellness and preventative alternative for their children’s present and future.

The mission of Pediatric Osteopathic Manual Therapy at New York Physical Therapy is to help children from birth through their school years reach their full physical potential. This is accomplished by implementing our unique training in osteopathic manual therapy to assess the stresses in the infant/child’s body and cranium. By using very gentle, non-invasive manual techniques that include cranial-sacral therapy, myofascial release and soft tissue mobilization we release these stressors.

As these stressors are mitigated, we provide education and rehabilitative exercises for our clients and their families to help achieve their rehab goals.

Our goal is to enhance every child’s opportunity to grow and relate to the world in the most balanced and effective manner.

For over 20 years we have been utilizing osteopathic manual therapy principles to assist children with a variety of issues including: sucking, latching and feeding problems, sleeping problems, walking difficulties, scoliosis, torticollis/posture issues and aches and pains associated with growing. In addition, we specialize in treating children in conjunction with their dentists for issues related to the teeth and jaw including palate expanders, braces and TMJ pain and dysfunction.
